Open Thread * Dow Closing * “Hillary Clinton, For the Hour” »

BREAKING NEWS via CNN: “At the final bell, the Dow drops below 8,000 for the first time since 2003 amid worries over the auto industry’s future.”

NOW, an OPEN THREAD! With a bonus:

THIS is the Charlie Rose interview that blew my socks off a few years ago. As I watched it, I realized that this woman would be able to take any high position — including the presidency — and be one of the best in history at that job.

Special thanks to NoQuarter reader cjanimate who noticed my post the other night in which I referred to this interview Read the rest

“Liberal” Media to Hillary: Stay where you are. »

For some reason, “Apocalypse Now” popped into my head (it could be the pain killers, I’m still getting over a root canal.)

Kurtz: I expected someone like you. What did you expect? Are you an assassin?
Willard: I’m a soldier.
Kurtz: You’re neither. You’re an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks, to collect a bill.

Today’s errands boys are Thomas Friedman of the NY Times and the Washington Post’s David Broder. Both have turned out columns filled with praise for Senator Hillary Clinton. Both are sure she is more than up to the job of Secretary of State and both hope she stays in the Senate. It seems the Great Obama must not be sidetracked by the distractions of the Clintons! What they fail to mention is that most of the so-called distractions of the Clintons are created by the media in the first place. So in other words, the most qualified candidate for Secretary of State should not take the job because we (the MSM) will simply make it impossible for her to function since we will be spending inordinate amounts of time looking into every moment of private citizen and former President Clinton’s life, interpreting every utterance from him again and again and investigating every dime he makes. We will also dissect every facial expression from Hillary to figure out what she really must be thinking at every moment.

You can read Friedman here and Broder here.

Meanwhile, the man who will be President remains unvetted. Read the rest

The Sexism Continues… »

The headline on the MSN homepage (via MSNBC) declares, “Dem sources: Clinton to help wife get State job.”

This headline refers to the fact that President Clinton is disclosing his financial records and those of his charitable work. But the sexist opportunity was too good for MSNBC to pass up. President Clinton is not helping his wife “get a job,” he’s merely presenting financial documents to Obama’s transition team. Ostensibly, all potential cabinet members and their spouses are also going through this process now. The big difference, however, is that the Obama team made Clinton’s financial records a campaign issue.

Can you imagine the headline turned the other way? I don’t recall seeing, “Liddy Dole to help husband get job” or “Mary Matalin to help James Carville get job.”

Setting the Record Straight »

(bumped up by NoQuarter)

I’ve been debating whether or not to post these thoughts for several weeks now. On the one hand I really don’t want the aggravation that is bound to ensue as a result of what I’m about to write, but on the other hand I have to address what I believe is a disturbing trend in the comments section of this blog.

The boards appear to have been hijacked by some of No Quarter’s most shrill and unhinged readers. Thanks to Larry’s generosity I’ve been writing for this blog for quite some time and have enjoyed interacting with NQ fans, who have turned this corner of the Internets into a thriving community. I’ve noticed that many of the former regulars don’t post anymore. I can’t help but wonder whether they’re disgusted, too frightened or intimidated to express their thoughts.

I won’t mention any names, but some of you need to check yourselves. Those of you who claim to speak for “America” (and you know who you are) need to dial down your Muslim-baiting, your xenophobia and your paranoia. I think some of you took a wrong turn on the information highway. The Free Republic is that way —————–>

Obama Continues To Suck Supporters Dry - Guest Post »

(Special thanks to Joanne for submitting this fine post (!) in response to my offer to let all of you readers “vent.” Extra thanks to American Girl in Italy for pitching in, and helping me prep these for publication. She’s a real trooper. We have so many more of your submissions to publish! We have to mix it up with our regular writers’ stories. But if you don’t see your submission published by the end of this weekend, please rattle my chain at susanunpc at gmail dot com. PLEASE, because my Inbox is an unholy mess. Thanks.)

Hey you! Yeah, I’m talking to you Obama supporters.

King Barack knows you paid for his Greek columns, trip to Europe and infomercial and I’m sure you’ve pleased him.

But he needs more.

Didn’t you get the email he had his campaign manager David Plouffe sent you? Stop whining about having to put gas in your tank and pay your mortgage…you’re annoying the king. Didn’t you read what David Plouffe said. What? You forgot because you were to busy figuring out how you were going to pay your bills? You ungrateful bastards. Let me refresh your memory:

“We’ll get to work transforming this country. But first, we need to take care of the DNC. Before we do anything else, we need to pay for this winning strategy.”

Whither Goest the GOP? »

Where do you see this rambling Republican beast headed for? A Sunset or a Different Dawn ?

American wanted change—ANY change. J. B. Williams doesn’t mince words:

Now that it’s clear to everyone in the free world that the Republican Party national leadership is indeed out of touch with rank and file Republicans across the country and unable to defeat even the most unqualified and inexperienced Democrat candidates on the national stage, heads must roll and they will.

What the HELL has happened to our country?!? - Guest Post »

What the HELL has happened to our country?!? The party that was supposed to be for progressive values has turned into a bunch of race baiting, misogynistic thugs! The election fraud that the DNC screamed about in 2000 and 2004…they are now PAYING ACORN to commit! And our guardians of truth, the press has become a den of morons and liars unrivaled only in their incompetence anywhere in the world.

We’re spending BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars to bailout corrupt Wall Street insiders who have committed dozens of crimes their pet politicians refuse to even investigate! Our standard of living is visibly declining for the poor and middle class. And these kinds of things are happening all across the country in every aspect of American life!

Now I’m not going to blame all of this on the Jackasses masquerading as the Democratic party right now. It was in fact Republicans who started it! It was the party of *cough* “morals” *cough* that launched a witch hunt against Bill Clinton, and spent millions to set him up for getting a blow job. Now before anyone argues that point, think about this. Why did Monica decide to save a semen stained dress for months without washing it?!? That’s just EWWWW!!! Read the rest

The Hardest Rule and the Cost-Basis Blues… - Guest Post »

When I was a girl, my father, a Wall Street executive and Marine, God Bless him, imparted to me the theory of ‘the hardest rule’ in trading/investing. He told me that each day, you ought to look at your portfolio/holdings and examine each individual stock with this question uppermost in mind:

What is the position of this company TODAY? (and) What is the future outlook for this company according to the data available AS OF TODAY?

The corollary to these questions is of course that what happened to this position in the past IS NO LONGER RELEVANT except for as much as it impacts future outlook i.e. when an acquisition might be accretive to earnings down the road.

In other words, you should NOT be looking at your cost basis (the price you paid to purchase the stock). It is of no use whatsoever to start your day examining your holdings if you are going to come to the table with your cost basis uppermost in your mind. You will continue to hold long after you should have sold.

All righty then.

Domestic terrorist Bill Ayers on NPR’s Fresh Air »

I just listened to an interview by Terry Gross of NPR titled, “Which Way The Wind Blows: Bill Ayers On Obama.” Ayers is the former anti-war activist and one-time fugitive leader of the Weatherman Underground organization of the 1960s and 70s.

As in other recent interviews, he denied having a very close relationship with Barack Obama but at the same time he states that the residents in his neighborhood are very friendly, get together in each others’ homes and “laugh about the inflated rhetoric of the 60s”. Tell me, Bill, do Barack and Michelle sit in on these pow-wows? He says that the ads that Senator McCain aired about Obama’s relationship with him and his past activities were lies. He says that it is a credit to the American people that the ads didn’t work. Then it is good that Americans elected a president who probably agrees with your past activities and may even have some dangerous agenda in store for all of us? Read the rest
